SLAVA UKRAINI!! HEROYAM SLAVA!! СЛАВА УКРАЇНІ! ГЕРОЯМ СЛАВА!
Thank you to our dedicated sponsors and to all who volunteered, provided entertainment or participated in the Original Canadian Garlic Festival over the years. Because of your involvement, we enjoyed 25 successful years of hosting our one-day wonder.
However, after lengthy discussions, the Board made the difficult decision to retire the Original Canadian Garlic Festival. We considered the time element and manpower available – the sacrifice of 3 full months for a few committee members, approximately 3000 volunteer hours and 300 volunteers. And of course, the advent of the new Poutine Festival was part of our decision. The challenges are too great when competing with a second professionally run food festival which includes a beer tent, children’s activities, professional entertainment, seating for 3,000 and taking place just a couple blocks away. Besides offering us one table at their festival and to mention our name in their advertising, Poutine Fest, during negotiations, would not consider any changes to their dates, times, or programming. There was no compromise!
Because costs of providing events have increased considerably, and because our volunteers have been stretched, the Board will focus its energy on cultural celebrations and enhancing other yearly activities. On Sunday, August 27, we will still host a much smaller event featuring holubtsi & varenyky and bbq. Although there will be no road closure, we have invited garlic vendors to set-up on this day.
FRESH pyrohy & holubtsi are available every week for take-out (Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4pm). Please drop in or call 705-673-7404.
